Title: Covid Updates
Four Corners values the partnerships we have throughout each community. Before we close this year to begin another, an update is needed. We are sharing news about the Omicron COVID variant and new information from the CDC. We are also including numbers from the past year and some data about our current situation.
As of December 20, 2021, Omicron has been detected in most states and territories and is rapidly increasing the number of COVID-19 cases. As of Wednesday, December 29, 2021, Four Corners has not received any reports of the Omicron variant in the District. The CDC expects that anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others and expects this variant to cause a surge of COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks.
Testing & Vaccines
Since November 1st, when Four Corners began offering COVID tests, 199 tests have been done by the Department. The type of test at Four Corners tests for Influenza A & B, and COVID-19.
Four Corners began giving vaccines on December 23, 2020. There were 21 vaccines given in 2020. In 2021, 5,968 total vaccines were given by Four Corners. A total of 45,804 COVID vaccines have been given in the Four Corners Health Department district in 2021.
The past 7 days (December 22 to December 28) have seen 158 new positive (lab-tested) COVID-19 cases in the Four Corners District. The 7-day case total for each county is as follows:

An additional death from November has been determined to be COVID-19 related. This was a man in his 70’s from Seward County. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 95 for the Four Corners District. Seward County has had 41 total COVID-19 related deaths, Polk County 22, York County is at 19, and Butler at 13.
Monday, December 27, the CDC changed their quarantine and isolation recommendations for the general population.
- When a COVID test is positive, isolate for 5 days. After 5 days, if there are no symptoms or symptoms are resolving, home isolation can be ended. A mask is to be worn for 5 more days.
For those who have been exposed to someone with COVID, quarantine may look different.
- If exposed and vaccinated with a booster or are fully vaccinated/not yet eligible for a booster, quarantine is not needed. A mask should be worn around others for 10 days. If possible, a COVID-19 test should be taken on day 5.
- If exposed and unvaccinated or have not had a booster but are eligible, home quarantine for 5 days. If possible, test on day 5. Then continue to wear a mask around others days 6-10.
- If exposed and have symptoms, stay home and get tested.

Vaccines and boosters are still highly encouraged and are shown to be effective against infection. COVID-19 vaccination decreases the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. CDC strongly encourages COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 5 and older and boosters for everyone 16 and older. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and reduce the impact of COVID-19 on our communities.
