Region V Systems is hosting a 40-hour advanced training designed to assist Nebraska law enforcement personnel obtain better outcomes when working with persons with behavioral health challenges.

BETA allows for intervention by teaching officers about the signs and symptoms of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, and addictions.

Participants will also be introduced to local mental health resources, threat assessment principals and strategies, and problem solving within local systems of care.

Topics and speakers include:

  • Psychiatric Medications – Dr. Ally Dering-Anderson
  • Threat 101- Joseph Wright
  • Personal Stories of Hope and Recovery –  Peer Speakers
  • De-Escalation – Travis Parker
  • Culture, Class, Diversity, and Bias – Dr. Mark Foxall
  • Threat Management  & Assessment – Dr. Mario Scalora

This course was created with guidance from the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and has been endorsed by the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.

Registration fee:

  • Law Enforcement, Dispatch, High Utilization Review Team (H.U.R.T.), and Crisis Response Team – FREE
  • Behavioral Health Professionals / Community – $200

General information

  • Light breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack will be provided each day.
  • 22 hours of credit will be awarded to meet requirements for Continuing Education Units for the following professions:  LMHP, LMFT, Social Work, and Professional Counseling.
  • 32 classroom hours will be offered for Law Enforcement officers.
  • Participants must attend the entire training and complete the final evaluation to receive credit.
