Coping With the Unique Needs of Children

Four Corners Health Department is hosting 3 unique sessions for parents to learn how to cope with their child’s behavior.  These sessions will be available in-person (at the Seward County Extension Office 322 S. 14th Street, Seward, NE), or via Zoom and will take about one hour with opportunity to ask questions.

This 3-session series is designed for parents and caretakers of children within the family setting to help them respond to the challenges of children with unique needs.  Interactive sessions include:

  • Coping With Your Child’s ADHD – Wednesday, February 8th, 7pm – 8pm
ADHD impacts multiple regions of the brain — the ones that control attention and impulsivity, and also the ones that help us identify and control our emotions.  All are welcome to attend who provide support to children/youth experiencing ADHD.
  • Coping With Your Child’s Autism – Tuesday, February 21st, 6:30pm – 7:30pm
A key principle to coping with a child with autism is to be able to dispel myths, and see the child as a child whose voice is unique.  Myths will be addressed, and key strategies in assisting the journey of this unique child will be shared.
  • Coping With Your Child’s Moods – Tuesday, March 14th, 6:30 – 7:30pm
Each child’s moods are gateways to understanding the world that they are experiencing.  Responding to moods, rather than reacting to them calls for an appreciation of each child’s unique journey of growth.  Keys as to what are developmentally predictable as compared to emotions that can lead to behavioral concerns are discussed.

The presenter, Dr. Don Belau, Ph.D., School Psychologist, has extensive experience in working with children and adolescents.

Registration is requested, but free.  You will need to register in advance if you would like to join on Zoom.  Register for one, two, or all three!  Refreshments will be provided.
