Press Release: From Four Corners Health Department
Contact: Laura McDougall, Executive Director
For Immediate Release: January 3, 2022
Four Corners Health Department is continuing to monitor the Omicron variant closely. Here is an update on what we know.
Each week, a small number of COVID tests are sequenced to determine the variants circulating the District. For the first time, two COVID tests, from the last week in December have been confirmed to be positive with the Omicron variant in the District. This includes one case from Seward county and one case from Polk county.
According to the CDC, the Omicron variant likely will spread more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus. It remains unknown how easily Omicron spreads compared to Delta. They expect that anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others. This includes those who are vaccinated or don’t have symptoms.
The past 7 days (December 27 to January 2) have seen 154 new positive (lab-tested) COVID-19 cases in the Four Corners District. The 7-day case total for each county is as follows:
- Butler County— 38 (7 day case rate/100,000 population = 472)
- Polk County— 14 (7 day case rate/100,000 population = 265)
- Seward County— 55 (7 day case rate/100,000 population = 318)
- York County— 47 (7 day case rate/100,000 population = 341)
